St. Francois murder suspect charged with inmate assault

A man being held in St. Francois County jail awaiting trial for murder has been charged with assault as well.

31-year-old Anthony Caruthers was in court yesterday Tuesday for charges of felony first-degree assault, where a judge determined there was sufficient evidence to proceed to circuit court for trial.

St. Francois County sheriff’s deputies testified Caruthers attacked another inmate in the line for lunch on May 17th, 2018.

Caruthers was jailed for his role in the murder of Michael VanStavern in 2016.

His 3-day trial for the murder charges is set for April.
