(St. Mary) There is still a little confusion in the Ste. Genevieve County town of St. Mary regarding if the town still has a police department or not.

The topic was discussed in closed session during Thursday night’s city council meeting.

City Manager David Woods describes what has happened with the department so far.

Woods says the St. Mary City Council was also stood-up Thursday night by Easy Own Homes LLC, a company that owns a building in town in which the council has been attempting to condemn.

Woods says it’s a long process if the home or building owner does not answer requests that the City sends to them.

In other news from the St. Mary City Council meeting, Alderman Jennifer Weiss announced her resignation.

Woods says a replacement could be named at a later date.

Also, the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce has offered to pay for a St. Mary city treasurer which was eliminated during the budget meeting a couple months ago.

However, the council did not act on the offer but could at a future date.

One more item from the meeting…it was announced April’s municipal election will have votes for the mayor’s position, two council spots and the city collector’s position.
