St. Pius battles Jefferson in budding JCAA boys rivalry

It’s a major Festus hardwood showdown Friday when the Jefferson Bluejays host the St. Pius Lancers.

Both teams come in at 3-1 in the JCAA Small School Division and could still earn at least a share of the conference title with a win.

Behind star senior forward Jon Weik, Jefferson has strung together its first 3-game-win streak of the season to improve to 12-10.

But Bluejays head coach Sean Breeze says St. Pius provides the toughest challenge and the most intense environment his team will play in all year.

St. Pius has split its last 4 games, but the Lancers are still having a solid season.
Seniors Riley Naeger, Eli Boyer and Josh Rubel have powered St. Pius to a record of 16-6 overall.
Lancers head coach Chris Miller says his team has to value their chances with the basketball.

Jefferson knocked off St. Pius 66-52 in the Class 3 District 3 championship game last year, just their second win ever in the series.
Coverage for this edition of the Lancers and the Bluejays starts with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show Friday evening at 6:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
