St. Pius battles Jefferson in next edition of baseball rivalry on KJFF

(Festus) It’s a rivalry renewed on Jefferson County Baseball Tuesday as the St. Pius Lancers take on the Jefferson Blue Jays on KJFF.

St. Pius is 11-6 thanks to phenomenal pitching from Tate Ramey.

The senior is 5-1 and has a 2.94 earned-run average.

Mix in big seasons at the plate from junior shorstop Drew Merseal and senior catcher Austin Almany, and the Lancers are nearing a conference championship and a top seed in districts.

Head coach Dan Oliver believes his team is worthy of those accolades.

Jefferson has gotten strong years at the plate from sophomore Max Schnitzler, junior Sam Stokes and seniors Colton Richardson and Jack Hueter.

But the Blue Jays have dropped three straight and 11 of their last 15 to fall to 7-12.

Head coach Robert Kuehnle says he’s telling his guys that there’s still plenty of time to play better baseball.

The Lancers have won four of their last 7 meetings with the Blue Jays.

St. Pius visits Jefferson Tuesday afternoon on Jefferson County Baseball.

Coverage starts with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 3:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
