St. Pius’ Borrego & Dobey named Applebee’s of Farmington Athletes of the Week

(Festus) St. Pius Lancers seniors Paul Borrego and Blake Dobey are the Applebee’s of Farmington Athletes of the Week.

The veteran tennis teammates combined to win the Class 2 District 1 doubles championship last week, earning their way to the state championships.

Borrego and Dobey added to a conference championship that they won earlier this season and improved to 19-0 in doubles competition this season.

Lancers head coach Stephen Kainz says the chemistry they’ve developed is truly special.

Borrego and Dobey both won over 90 matches in their career and have total win percentages over .800 in their four years at St. Pius.

They will look to bring a state title home for the Lancers when they head to the Class 2 doubles tournament in Springfield on Thursday.

As Athletes of the Week, they receive a T-shirt, a certificate and a coupon for a free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
