St. Pius’ Cappozzo captures spot on girls’ soccer Dream Team

(Festus) Riley Cappozzo was one of the most dynamic girls’ soccer players in the state.

And not only did that help the St. Pius Lancers reach a state championship game.

It also earned the junior a spot on the Regional Radio Dream Team.

Cappozzo paced the Class 1 runners-up with 19 goals and 14 assists.

She says she’s grateful that other coaches notice how much of a well-rounded player she’s become.

Cappozzo was all-conference, all-district and a first-team all-state selection.

She says being a cerebral player is what allows her to not only have individual success, but also the ultimate goal of team success.

But Cappozzo didn’t do it alone.

Cappozzo was one of 5 St. Pius players to earn all-state honors, including senior College Flanagan, who was named the Class 1 offensive co-player of the year, and sophomore Emily Vatterott, who was the state defensive player of the year.
