St. Pius Defeats Crystal City 52-41 in Jefferson County Small Schools Battle on KJFF

(CRYSTAL CITY) The St. Pius Lady Lancers picked up their first Jefferson County Conference Small Schools victory Friday night by knocking off the Lady Hornets 52-41 at Crystal City High School on KJFF.
St. Pius led 14-8 after 1 and had stretched out the lead to 8 in the 2nd quarter, smothering Crystal City’s leading scorer Kailey Krieg and holding her scoreless. That’s when senior Taylor Sloan stepped in to help out.
Sloan finished the first half with 16 points. Krieg picked up the scoring for the Hornets in the 4th with 12 points, but Lady Lancer Payton Baker didn’t let that rain on the St. Pius parade.
Baker finished with 11, Angeleena Johnson with 15, and A.J. Agers with a team-high 18. St. Pius head coach Aaron Portell thought the defense did a good job of sticking to its identity.
St. Pius is now 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the Small Schools Division, with another one against Herculaneum Saturday at 4 p.m. Crystal City drops to 5-12 overall and 0-3 in the Small Schools standings, with a non-divisional game against St. Paul Lutheran on Monday.
