(IMPERIAL) The St. Pius Lancers opened the 2018 season with a 42-14 road victory over the Windsor Owls on AM 1400 KJFF Friday night. The Lancers received the opening kickoff and marched down the field in 15 plays, turning to senior running back Dustin Burch to finish off the 80-yard drive.

With the clock set to expire in the 1st quarter, Windsor turned to sophomore quarterback Derek Williams to score the first Owls touchdown of 2018.

At 7-7 in the early part of the 2nd quarter, St. Pius’ Burch picked up his second TD of the game.

The Lancers failed to convert the extra point, leading 13-7. Then at the 7:49 mark of the 2nd, Burch ran it in for the third time.

St. Pius went for two and got it, pushing their lead to 21-7 in the 2nd. Then the Lancers made a statement on defense, forcing a Windsor fumble inside the 20 and turning it into a quick six.

St. Pius went into the break with a 27-7 lead. Moving into the 3rd quarter, St. Pius remained full steam ahead, as Michael Bollinger saw the endzone for the first time this season.

Down 35-7 early in the 4th, Windsor’s Austin Henry intercepted Lancers QB Carson Fischer and then Owls running back Chris Butts ran it in soon after to end the scoring drought.

The 42-14 loss drops Windsor to 0-1 and the Owls will host 1-0 Seckman on KJFF next Friday. St. Pius starts off the new season at 1-0. and will travel to Bayless next week to face the Bronchos, who are having their inaugural varsity season.
