(Festus) St. Pius cross country runner Rita Eimer capped her career on as high a note as you can.
The Lancer senior won the Class 2 individual girls’ state championship Friday and is the Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.
It’s no suprise that Eimer says it was a feeling like no other when she crossed the finish line.
Eimer improved from finishing 22nd at state as junior to win it all and help St. Pius finish third in the Class 2 team standings.
Eimer says she has plenty of competition at home with sophomore teammates Rachel, her sister, and Michaela, her cousin.
But she’s pushed by her larger Lancer family.
Eimer hasn’t decided where she will be attending college, but she says she plans on running at the next level and continuing to get even better.
Eimer finished the Class 2 state championship race in Columbia in 19 minutes and 37 seconds, just 2 seconds ahead of second place.
As Athlete of the Week, Eimer receives a T-shirt, a certificate and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
