(FESTUS) The St. Pius girls cross country team is headed to state for the first time since 1996 after finishing runner-up in this past weekend’s Class 2 District 2 race in Florissant.

The Lancers finished 2nd behind Jefferson R-7 despite scoring the same amount of points. That’s because the tiebreaker favored the Blue Jays after their 6th runner, Peyton Cattoor, finished 5-spots ahead of St. Pius’s 6th runner, Reagan Edwards.

Despite the tiebreaker favoring the Blue Jays, St. Pius Head Coach John Daly was happy to see his team have something to take with them to state.

Reagan Edwards, the girl that finished 29th and was involved in the tiebreaker situation, draws high praise from Coach Daly.

Then there’s the cream of the crop for St. Pius cross country, Rita “The Cheetah” Eimer.

Rita finished 3rd at districts with a time of 21:00:38. The runners that finished between Rita and Reagan are Rachel Eimer, 11th, Hanna Schappe, 15th, Michaela Eimer, 16th, and Sophia Schappe, 18th. The St. Pius girls cross county will run at 10:50 Saturday morning in the Class 2 state meet in Columbia.
