(Festus) The St. Pius Lancers summoned a complete team effort to knock off the Ste. Genevieve Dragons 9-4 Friday on Regional Radio.
It was Ste. Genevieve’s top hitters who gave the Dragons the initial lead.
But the Lancers had hot bats early and often against Dragon pitching.
Ste. Gen slowly chipped away at the lead and got within a run.
That’s when Pius senior catcher Austin Almany came up with the Gilster Mary Lee Drive of the Game.
After starter Tate Ramey struck out six in the first 3-plus innings, the Lancers relied on their bullpen and some slick defense to seal the win.
Almany added a double to his home run and finished with 3 runs batted in on his way to being named Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.
Head coach Dan Oliver says defeating the Dragons started in practice the day before.
St. Pius improves to 11-6 this season with the win, while Ste. Genevieve falls to 11-7.
