St. Pius streaks past Crystal City for girls’ hoops win

(Festus) The St. Pius Lancers finished with their highest scoring total of the season in a 63-29 victory over the Crystal City Hornets Friday night on KJFF.

St. Pius had a 20-3 lead more than a quarter into the game.

And even when Crystal City cut the deficit to 12 at halftime, the Lancers exerted their will in the third period.

PJ Krodinger scored a game-high 17 points, while junior teammate Riley Cappozzo chipped in 12 points and a bevy of steals to earn the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Pius head coach Aaron Portell said his team started to put it together after halftime.

St. Pius improves to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Crystal City drops to 8-9, including 0-2 in the JCAA Small-School Division.
