(CRYSTAL CITY) The St. Vincent Indians are champions of the 7th Rolla “Duke” Herbert Classic, beating top-seed and three-time defending champion Saxony Lutheran 60-49 Friday night on J98.

St. Vincent held a 33-19 lead at the half. Saxony went on a 13-0 run to start the 3rd and pull within one point. The Indians handled the rally well and began increasing their lead again as the 3rd quarter drew to a close.

St. Vincent head coach Bruce Valleroy knew that moment was huge.

The top two scorers for the Indians were Garrett Dobbelare with 17 and Isaac Ernst with 16. St. Vincent is now 3-0 to start the season.

Before the championship game on J98, the Jefferson Blue Jays wrapped up their tournament with a 3rd place finish after beating Crystal City 62-34 on KJFF. Easton Null knocked down the big shot of the night for the Jays.

Jefferson head coach Sean Breeze played all nine of his players and unlike in Wednesday’s loss to St. Vincent, everyone scored.

Null led the Jays in scoring with 21 and Hunter Bassin led the Hornets with 16. Jefferson is now 2-1 on the year and will play Hancock in its next game on Tuesday. Crystal City falls to 1-2 and will next play the St. Louis Patriots, also on Tuesday.
