(PERRYVILLE, Mo.) – After not fielding a softball team for the last six years due to lack of numbers, the St. Vincent Indians are planning to revive the program for the 2019 fall season. Nathan Unterreiner is taking over as the team’s head coach. He said St. Vincent has always had a few students interested in playing softball, but now they finally have enough to field a team.

Unterreiner has coached for the Perryville Stars club softball team for the last 11 years and currently coaches the 12U team. He said he’s excited to start growing a high school program from the ground up.

While starting a program from scratch, Unterreiner said he knows success might not come right away.

St. Vincent’s most recent softball season was in 2013 when the team finished 18-6. The Indians will kick off the 2019 softball season on Tuesday, Sept. 3 when they visit Cape Central.
