(FREDERICKTOWN, Mo.) – The Ste. Genevieve Dragons earned a road victory Friday night as they defeated the Fredericktown Blackcats by a final of 36-28 on Homecoming Night on J-98.

Ste. Gen marched down the field on the game’s first drive and punched it in from the 1-yard line thanks to quarterback Logan Gegg.

The Dragons led 7-0 after the PAT, but Fredericktown ended up scoring on their first drive as well thanks to a long 43-yard touchdown run by Malachi Kyle.

It remained 7-6 Ste. Gen after the missed PAT.

The Dragons scored again in the second quarter with a Bryce Trollinger run.

But the Blackcats had a response, as a bad snap on a Ste. Gen punt put Fredericktown on the 1-yard line.

The Blackcats punched it in with quarterback Evan Burrows.

A two point conversion tied the game at 14.

But Ste. Gen wasn’t done in the first half, scoring again on a Gegg to Zach Boyer connection.

Now down 21-14 near the end of the half, Kyle scored once more for Fredericktown.

The Blackcats led 22-21 at the break thanks to a 2-point conversion.

But Ste Gen scored early in the third thanks to another Trollinger touchdown run.

Then, still in the third, Gegg would put it out of reach.

Ste. Gen tacked on a two-point conversion to take a 36-22 lead.

The Blackcats would score a late touchdown with Burrows to make it 36-28, but an onside kick was recovered by the Dragons and the ended there.

Dragons head coach Ken Weik was happy with his team’s performance in a tough environment.

Blackcats head coach Chuck Ford likes the effort of his teams, but knows certain mistakes can’t continue to happen.

Ste. Gen improves to 4-3 on the season and will travel to Desoto next week, while Fredericktown drops to 1-6 and is at Doniphan next Friday.
