(PARK HILLS, Mo.) – The Ste. Genevieve Dragons football broke a seven-game losing streak to the Central Rebels on Friday, winning 24-22 in Park Hills in the Class 3, District 1 semifinals.

In the first quarter, Ste. Genevieve used the air attack to take an early lead as Logan Gegg found Zach Boyer.

It was 7-0 Dragons after the PAT.

But the Rebels found the answer later in the first, as a long pass from Dylan Corcoran to Blake Bolin set up a short touchdown run by Gage Manion.

The Rebels went for two and got it, and ended up taking a 8-7 lead.

But another touchdown pass from Gegg to Jesse Kemper and a two-point conversion would make it 15-8 at halftime.

The Dragons picked up where they left off at the start of the third, with Gegg running it in himself for his third touchdown.

Ste. Gen stayed in front 21-8 after the missed PAT.

But Central would stage a comeback, first with a Manion touchdown throw to Brayden Scherffius on a trick play.

And then a muffed punt by Ste. Genevieve led to a Isaiah Welch touchdown.

After all that, Central led 22-21.

But Ste. Gen got one more chance at a drive with just under 3 minutes left in the game.

With mere seconds left, the Dragons went to Brazilian foreign exchange student Mateas Lacerda for a potential game winning kick from 31-yards out…

Ste. Genevieve would close it out for a 24-22 victory.

Dragons head coach Ken Weik describes the feeling of breaking the losing streak to Central at such a pivotal moment.

Rebels head coach Kory Schweiss compliments the Dragons after the loss.

Ste. Genevieve is now 8-3 and moves on to the district finals next week to face 11-0 Kennett.

Central sees their season come to an end at 7-4.
