(STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.) – The district football playoffs begin Friday all across the state, and the Ste. Genevieve Dragons will welcome in the Fredericktown Blackcats in the #3-versus-#6 matchup in the Class 3 District 1 tournament. Ste. Genevieve brings a 6-3 overall record and a four-game winning streak to their first playoff game. Dragons coach Ken Weik said the recent success has been due to an improved running game.

A prior meeting between these two teams saw the Dragons escape Fredericktown with a 36-28 victory. Weik said close games like that one have helped prepare his team for playoff time.

For the Blackcats, a solid finish to the regular season including wins over Doniphan and East Prairie has brought their overall record to 3-6. Blackcats coach Chuck Ford said he hopes his team can keep limiting their mistakes.

While they have competed in most every game they have played in to this point, Ford said it’s time to finally produce some results.

Ste. Genevieve has won 11 straight games against Fredericktown. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday with coverage beginning at 6 p.m. on J-98.
