For the first time since 2012, the Ste. Genevieve Dragons toppled a conference rival on the softball diamond, as the Dragons knocked off Central 5-4 Wednesday at Leon’s Field in Ste. Gen on KREI. The Rebels jumped out in front 2-0, but a big third inning was highlighted by the Gilster Mary Lee Drive of the Game.

Izzy Basler ended up being our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game, and the Dragons ended up taking the lead in that inning. But Central would get back in it before Lexi Bova put the Dragons ahead for good with the Patsy’ Furniture Play of the Game.

The win helps Ste. Gen improve to 6-3 overall and ties the Dragons with Central for second place in the MAAA. Dragons head coach Russ Toombs says his first season has shown signs of life thanks to what his team can do with the bat.

Ste. Genevieve is next in action Friday when it hosts the Old Settlement Tournament with Valle Catholic. Central falls to 6-5 and returns to the diamond by facing Arcadia Valley Friday night in the first round of the Old Settlement Tournament.
