(FESTUS) The first round of the Class 3 District 2 volleyball tournament this evening on the MyMoInfo SportsStream featured three matches of straight-set victories.

The night kicked off with the 5th-seeded Ste. Genevieve Dragons knocking off the 4th-seed DeSoto Dragons. Ste. Genevieve was down 11-6 in the 1st set but rallied back to win it 25-23.

Ste. Genevieve didn’t relent and won the match in straight sets by taking set number two, 25-19. However, head coach Jessica Fallert said the Dragons still have some work to do despite the win.

The Desoto Dragons end their season at 10-16-5. Ste. Genevieve is now 12-14-4 and moves on to face the top-seeded Central Rebels in the semifinals. The second match of the evening saw the 2nd-seeded Festus Tigers roll in straight sets against the Herculaneum Blackcats. After cruising in the first set to win 25-13, Festus fended off a 2nd-set Herky rally.

Tigers head coach Karen Biehle was not surprised by Herky’s slight rally in the 2nd set.

While Festus improves 20-10-2, Herculaneum’s season ends with a record of 7-18-2. The evening wrapped up with the 3rd-seeded North County Raiders winning in straight sets over 6th-seeded Potosi. North County took the first set 25-17 and pushed down on the accelerator in set number two.

Raiders head coach Chelsey Crocker thought that all facets of the game were spot-on.

While the season ends for Potosi at 10-18, North County improves to 16-16 and will face Festus in the semifinals tomorrow night. That will take place after Ste. Genevieve battles Central in the first semi, with the championship match to follow later in the evening. We’ll have complete coverage from Class 3 District 2 starting at 4:15 tomorrow afternoon on the MyMoInfo SportsStream.
