(Ste. Genevieve) The top two seeds will meet in the Class 4 District 2 championship games tomorrow after the Ste. Genevieve Dragons and North County Raiders earned semifinal victories this afternoon in games heard on KREI. Top-seeded Ste. Genevieve shut out the fourth-seeded Potosi Trojans 7-0 in game one. Chad Donze pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball allowing just four hits. The offense helped him out with Brady Boyer delivering a big hit in a five-run fourth inning.

Ste. Genevieve improved to 21-4 with the win. Dragons coach Mike McDaniel says he likes the offensive production at this stage in the season.

Potosi finished its season with a record of 7-13.

The North County Raiders downed the DeSoto Dragons in the second semi-final game this evening by a final score of 4-3 on a walk-off basehit. North County led 2-0 after four innings of play. Then in the top of the fifth, DeSoto was finally able to get on the board. Three hits to kick off the frame scored a run and put runners on the corners as the Dragons’ Hunter Dill stepped in and dropped down a perfectly placed bunt to drive home the runner from third.

The Raiders and Dragons both scored another run to make it 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, an error, single, and intentional walk loaded the bases. That brought Cole Ziegler to the plate and he blasted the first pitch he saw into the right centerfield gap for the Gilster Mary Lee Drive of the Game, and the game winner.

North County head coach Chris McClain says it took a team effort to get this hard fought win.

DeSoto finishes the season with an overall record of 11-10. North County moves to 15-9-1 and advances to the Class 4 District 2 Championship to face Ste Genevieve tomorrow afternoon.

We will have coverage of the championship game beginning at 5:15 on J98 with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show and first pitch slated for 5:30.
