(Ste. Genevieve) Wednesday’s doubleheader concluded with another Ste. Genevieve and Festus classic with Post 150 getting the victory over Post 253 6-4. Ste. Gen started the game on fire, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, but Festus didn’t get rattled. Festus grad Anthony Simon came in and tied the game up in the third.
Festus took a one-run lead in the fourth, but Ste. Gen responded, notching the game back up at three a piece with this Aaron Eftink swing.
Then Slade Schweiss would give the lead back to Post 150.
Ste. Gen scored another run in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Clayton Drury, making it 5-3. In the following inning, Festus 253 loaded the bases with no outs. Post 150 gave up a run on a walk, but a huge double play helped them escape the jam.
Boyer struck out the next batter to retire the side. Ste. Gen gained one more run en route to the 6-4 victory and a spot in the District 13 finals. The story of the game is Festus leaving 13 runners stranded in the ball game. Ste. Genevieve Assistant Coach Jason Blum says the team stepped up in the big moments.
Ste. Genevieve Post 150 improves to 19-8 and will wait to see who they will play in the finals Friday. Festus Post 253 awaits the winner of Rock Memorial 283 and Mineral Area Post 416 Thursday. Both of those games will be broadcast tonight on Regional Radio.
