Ste. Genevieve Volleyball Preview
(Ste. Genevieve) The Ste. Genevieve High School volleyball team had a season to remember in 2022. The Dragons went 33-5-2 and finished third in Class 3, their best accomplishment since coming in second place in 1985.
The Dragons will have a different look this fall with seven seniors out the door and zero seniors on the roster this season. Fourth-year head coach Carla Basler is optimistic about this new group of Dragons and their potential.
Basler says she got the girls together in June to start preparing for the 2023 campaign.
Basler tells us about some of the team bonding activities.
According to Basler, a large crop of juniors will fill the roster, including two girls with a lot of experience as setters.
Basler tells us about the rest of the junior class on the Ste. Genevieve volleyball team.
Basler mentioned sophomore Emma Gegg as a consistent presence in the front and back row who should have a big role on the team.
Junior Joleigh Parker is the only returning player who started for the Dragons at the final four in Cape Girardeau last year. Coach Basler wants this mostly new group of varsity athletes to focus on writing their own story instead of living in the shadow of last year’s team.
Basler got her team together at the start of the summer to talk about how they want to define what a successful season is.
Ste. Genevieve volleyball begins their season on Monday, August 28th at the Class 5 District 1 champion Jackson Indians.
