It was a spectacular sophomore season for Ste. Genevieve forward Sydney Bumgardaner, as she made the 2019 Regional Radio Dream Team for girls’ basketball while helping the Dragons win the MAAA large-school division regular-season championship and reach the Class 4 District 2 title game. Bumgardaner led Ste. Gen in rebounds and blocks while averaging 12 points per game this season, and she says she knew coming into the year she would have more responsibility than she did as a freshman.

But Bumgardaner isn’t just a star athlete. With participation in speech and debate, the math club and the A+ program to go with sports, Bumgardaner still has managed to earn a 4.14 grade-point average, best in her class. Bumgardaner says her busy schedule can drain her, but she wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Bumgardaner is looking foward to getting back on the court with teammates like all-conference point guard Maci Reynolds, but she’ll be finetuning her game with a traveling team Magic Basketball that features 5 other Dream Teamers. Bumgardaner says her Magic teammates had a good time learning about each other’s accomplishments.

Bumgardaner will also play volleyball for Ste. Genevieve in the fall. To hear the full interview with Sydney Bumgardaner, click below
