(Hillsboro) Nearly every area of Jefferson County has been hit with vehicle break-ins and even vehicle thefts over the past year. However, now some of the different regions of the county have seen the efforts by groups of subjects working together to check for unlocked vehicles in area neighborhoods. Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak says the fact that some of these subjects are armed with handguns makes it quite concerning.

Law enforcement officials continue to stress the importance of keeping vehicles locked, and remove any valuables that may be left inside.

In mid-October, a homeowner confronted an individual who was attempting to break into vehicles parked at a residence in Imperial. Just last week, video surveillance captured footage of armed subjects checking for unlocked vehicles in Festus.
