(STEELVILLE) – It was a record-breaking season for the Steelville Cardinals girls basketball team in 2017-18. Not only did the Cardinals capture the Gasconade Valley Conference championship, but they also earned their first district championship in school history, winning the Class 3 District 3 title game over Central.

Head coach Seth Collins says the three seniors leaving the program will be tough to replace.

Hannah Cottrell will graduate as the program’s all-time leading scorer, while Abby Booker leaves with the school record for 3-pointers made. As far as having similar success next year, Collins says they will return some key pieces.

After falling to Whitfield in the Class 3 state sectionals, the Cardinals finished at 24-5 overall. Three of the five starters on this year’s team will return next season.
