(HILLSBORO) – The Class 3 sectional round comes to J-98 Wednesday night in both girls and boys basketball from Jefferson College. On the girls side, the District 3 champion Steelville Cardinals at 24-4 will face the District 4 champion Whitfield Warriors at 20-6. Cardinals head coach Seth Collins said he was very proud after his team captured their first Class 3 District 3 championship.

Whitfield is led by Aijha Blackwell, who leads the St. Louis metro area in scoring averaging just under 24 points per game. Head coach Michael Slater said that against a 1-3-1 defense like Steelville’s, they can’t afford to make mistakes.

The Warriors will also participate in the boys sectional round, facing the 20-9 Distict 3 champion Central Rebels. Whitfield (20-7) is led by one of the most talented players in the Show Me State, Mizzou commit Torrence Watson. Rebels head coach Adam Barton said he knows they can’t stop Watson, who averages over 30 points per game, but he knows that his team will need to slow him down in some capacity if they want to win.

Tipoff for the girls game between Steelville and Whitfield is set for 6 p.m. while the boys game between Central and Whitfield is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Both games can be heard on J-98 Wednesday night with a 5:45 p.m. pregame show.
