Street Name Change in Small Unincorporated Jefferson County Town

(Hematite) Many locals or people passing through one small unincorporated Jefferson County town might notice something a little different when it comes to street names.

Main Street in Hematite, which has a Festus zip code has been renamed.

Bernard Laiben is the President of the Jefferson County Historical Society.

He says the name change idea was brought up by the Historic Tanglefoot Association.

So what was the Hematite street renamed to.

It’s unclear at this time if the Historic Tanglefoot Association will now push for Festus City officials to rename Festus East and West Main Street to just Main Street.
