Student with a toy gun at Festus Middle School

On Tuesday, Festus Middle School administrators were notified that a student had a weapon at school. An investigation determined the weapon was, in fact, a toy gun. The student was identified at the beginning of the first hour and detained by the school resource officer and was transferred to the appropriate authorities

In a press release from the Festus School District, “The quick resolution of this incident is a result of students getting involved to report it and administrators working closely with the school resource officer to investigate and detain the student. The Festus R-VI School District takes all reports of weapons seriously and reacts quickly to investigate all reports. Please continue to encourage your students that if they see something, say something. It is everyone’s responsibility to help keep our school and students safe”. The name of the student will not be released.
