Suspected Bank Robber in Custody

(Jefferson County) A 27-year-old Florissant man suspected to have been involved in a robbery at First State Community Bank in the Shady Valley area off Old Highway 21 near Imperial on Wednesday morning is now in custody.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell says the bank robbery was called in sometime after 10am.

It is unknown if the suspect was able to get away with anything during the robbery or if it was a failed attempt.

After exchanging gunfire with deputies, the suspect then fled into the Walden Pond Apartment Complex where he eventually forced his way into a resident’s apartment.

The sheriff’s office SWAT Team was activated alongside a canine unit.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and St. Louis County Police Department provided assistance.

The FBI is handling the investigation of the bank robbery.

The name of the suspect has not been released pending formal charges from the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
