Sydney Miles On Being Named Athlete Of The Week

(Park Hills) Sydney Miles put together a stellar week for the Central Lady Rebel softball team and was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week. The Rebels played seven games last week and the sophomore went 12-for-20 at the plate and helped to lead her team to a championship at the Dexter Swing Pink tournament. Miles said one her biggest moments of the season came against Senath-Hornersville in the opening game of the Swing Pink Tournament.

Miles hit an RBI single on a 1-0 count to score Kelsie Politte and win the game 9-8. The Rebels entered that tournament with nine available players but they played the championship game with only eight players.

Central beat Doniphan 9-7 to win the tournament. Miles has a .615 batting average and .712 on-base percentage this season. She’s also pitched in a few games, something she hasn’t done in a long time.

The Rebels are 2-0 this week with wins over Steelville and Clearwater. Miles was 4-for-7 at the plate with eight runs scored. Overall, Central is 10-6 on the year. As Athlete of the Week, Miles received a t-shirt, certificate, and a coupon for a free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
