Teenager from Bourbon Drowns in Meramec River

(Sullivan) A teenager from Bourbon drowned Sunday evening on the Meramec River in Franklin County.
The Highway Patrol says 17-year-old William Bergner Jr. was attempting to swim across the river at Meramec State Park near the campground boat access when Bergner became exhausted, he went under the water and lost the ability to resurface.
He was pronounced dead about an hour later after he was taken to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.
