The J98 Game Of The Week Pits Two Of The Area’s Best On A Night That Carries Some Weight Off The Field

(Hillsboro) The J98 Game of the Week features two powerhouse programs fighting to stay undefeated. The 3-0 North County Raiders head north to face the 3-0 Hillsboro Hawks for a 7:30 kickoff Friday night.

North County running back Jobe Smith is popping off in his senior year. He broke the school’s all-time rushing record last Friday to eclipse the 3,200 yard mark for his career and he’s averaging 11.5 yards per carry with 635 yards on the ground through three games.

North County head coach Brian Jones says Jobe Smith is a unique player.

On the flip side, Hillsboro has five players with over 100 rushing yards over their first three games.

Senior Austin Romaine leads the cast with 364 yards on 13 yards per carry but Jaxin Patterson and Payton Brown are over the 200 yard mark too. As a team, the Hawks average 389 rushing yards per game.

Hillsboro head coach Bill Sucharski says it’s hard to feed everyone the ball.

This game carries a little more significance off the field because it’s the 2nd annual POW/MIA Remembrance game. Hillsboro is the first POW/MIA designated school campus in the country. A recognition ceremony will be held prior to kickoff.

It’s a meaningful night for both Bill Sucharski and Brian Jones.

The POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony gets underway at 5:30 with gates opening at 5 o’clock a Hillsboro High School.

Tune into the Fliegs Equipment Pregame Show at 6 o’clock before North County at Hillsboro kicks off at 7:30 Friday night on J98.
