The Latest on Iron County Sheriff & Deputies Criminal Cases

(Ironton) The Iron County sheriff and two deputies had some movement in their criminal court cases in Washington County during the last couple weeks.

Sheriff Jeff Burkett, who lives in Des Arc, had his bond cut in half to 250-thousand dollars.

He faces four felonies and four misdemeanors.

A motion filed to allow media in the courtroom during Burkett’s proceedings was denied by Judge Tony Dorsett.

Deputies Chase Bresnahan of Belleview and Matthew Cozad of Bixby had their bonds lowered to 150-thousand dollars.

Bresnahan faces 4 felonies and 3 misdemeanors and Cozad has been charged with 4 felonies and 2 misdemeanors.

All three will be back at the courthouse in Potosi on April 26th for their preliminary hearings.

Burkett, Bresnahan and Cozad were all arrested by members of the highway patrol, along with Donald “Rick” Gaston, a citizen of Washington County, who also faces similar charges.

The arrests stem from an alleged scheme back in February where the Iron County sheriff and the two deputies attempted to help Gaston kidnap his daughter from the mother of his child
