The Old Settlement Showdown Is The J98 Game of the Week

(Ste. Genevieve) The Old Settlement Showdown is also the J98 Game of the Week.

The 6-0 Valle Catholic Warriors will host the 5-1 Ste. Genevieve Dragons Friday night in a game that has a little more meaning that just the rivalry. If Valle Catholic wins, they’ll be the champions of the MAFC – White division.

The Warriors put themselves in a position to clinch the conference title after last week’s comeback win over Park Hills. Valle scored 19 unanswered 4th quarter points to seal the 40-30 victory.

Coach Judd Naeger says it was important to get tested against a strong opponent.

Valle could face another difficult test on Friday. Though Valle has dominated Ste. Genevieve over the last three regular season meetings, outscoring the Dragons 129-13 over that span, last year’s district playoff game was a different story.

Ste. Gen came out with a lot of energy and Valle led by just seven points in the third quarter before eventually pulling away for a 69-35 victory…

Ste. Genevieve is coming off of a comeback win of their own. After trailing 12-7 at the half against Potosi last week, the Dragons, just like the Warriors, scored 19 unanswered points to win 26-12.

The Old Settlement Showdown is an event the Ste. Genevieve community always looks forward to. It’s no different for Ste. Gen head coach Jay Pope.
