Three Bears Taken So Far

(Jefferson City) The state Conservation Department reports three black bears have been killed so far during Missouri’s first-ever hunting season.

The season started Monday and runs through October 27th, or until the allowed 40 black bears are taken.

It is designated in parts of southern Missouri and is open to Missouri hunters who have been given a bear tag.

Conservation officials say Missouri has an estimated 800 bears and the number is growing at about a nine-percent rate annually.
