Trophy Day at the Central Christmas Tournament on J-98

(Park Hills) It’s championship day at the T.J. Foulon Fieldhouse in Park Hills. The Fredericktown girls have crashed the party and will play top seed and class one number one ranked South Iron for the title. South Iron marches in at 10-1 and have dominated in their first two games winning by 29 and 26 points. The Panthers already own convincing a win over the Blackcats, but coach Jimbo Blackwell isn’t overlooking them…

In fact Fredericktown comes in hot. They are only 6-6, but beat three seed Potosi by 15 and then went on a 23-5 run to close the deal against two seed Central. Coach Micah Reutzel says that’s not enough…

In the boys championship game top seed and 9-1 Central will play #6 Hillsboro. The 8-2 Hawks outlasted Festus by a bucket in the quarters and won their other games by a combined 57 points. Central beat Hillsboro earlier this year in the semifinals of the Gene Stieghorst tournament by 21 points. Coach Brian Sucharski is happy to get another crack at the Rebels…

Central has cruised through the field winning by a margin of 32 points in their games, but the Hawks may have the deepest team in the tournament. Central coach Brad Gross says they’ll do what they can to make their legs last…

We’ll start our broadcasts with the girls third place game between Central and Steelville at around 2:45. The Cardinals are 8-3. The Rebels are 8-2 and are ranked 4th in Class 4.

After that it’s the boys third place game between 9-2 Potosi and 8-2 Steelville. The Cardinals beat the Trojans for the championship of the Sullivan tournament early this year.
