Twin City Firecracker Extravaganza cut short

(Festus, Crystal City) The 32nd annual Twin City Firecracker Extravaganza was cut short on Saturday night due to heavy rain. While the event did take place as scheduled on Friday night as the rain held off, Saturday did begin with the morning and early afternoon events, before the rains hit early into the Johnathan Braddy Bands set around 6:15 and it was officially canceled around 7 o’clock. Festus Director of Tourism and Recreation Barb Lowry says they didn’t have a choice.

Lowry says Saturday night’s fireworks display was also canceled, and many residents may have heard the booms as the fireworks were discharged all at once which is a normal procedure by a fireworks display company.

The Festus-Crystal City area measured over three inches of rain from Friday afternoon up until Sunday night.
