(HILLSBORO) After news broke Wednesday evening on social media that Hillsboro baseball player Michael Brewer signed a major league contract with the Texas Rangers, people in the Jefferson County community took to Twitter to offer their congratulations.

His high school head coach Kevin Lucas sent out the original tweet that read,

“Well it looks like I just became a Texas Rangers fan!! Congrats to Michael Brewer for signing to get his professional baseball career started!! I’m excited to see what the future has in store for him!! Enjoy the ride & good luck buddy!!”

Coach Lucas described the moments leading up to the tweet.

Coach Lucas expanded on his excitement for Brewer.

Hillsboro Hoops tweeted, “Congrats Big Mike!! Stop by the barbershop on the way to Texas and clean that mop up, you’re a professional now!!”

Coach Boss, representing Hawks volleyball, tweeted, “Congratulations Michael Brewer, enjoy the ride!!”

Windsor Hoops, which is run by current boy’s head coach Jason Gillman, a former assistant boy’s basketball coach at Hillsboro, tweeted, “Congratulations Michael Brewer! Time to get to work, you have a job now.”

Another reaction came from Brewer’s Festus Post 253 Legion baseball head coach Zac Bone.

Coach Bone adds that Brewer has always shown that he is a special kind of talent.

In June, the Texas Rangers selected Brewer in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball Draft, making him the 995th player taken. By signing, Brewer will not be playing baseball at Southern Miss University who he committed to back in July of 2018.
