Two people were injured Thursday morning in a one vehicle accident in Crawford County including the mayor of an area town.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 59-year old Gregory Martin of Cuba was behind the wheel of a Ford van, traveling eastbound on I-44, a mile east of Cuba.

Martin’s passenger was 50-year old Michael Keen of Steelville, the town’s mayor.

The crash occurred when the vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree.

Martin, the driver, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

A Steelville city official tells Regional Radio that Keen suffered some lacerations and broken bones but is not in critical condition.

He is being treated at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.
