Two people were injured Wednesday morning in a one vehicle accident in Jefferson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 34-year old Jasson McCormick of St. Louis was behind the wheel of a Ford Expedition, heading eastbound at New Sugar Creek.

The crash occurred when McCormick spilled some coffee and became distracted.

The vehicle veered onto a concrete island and struck a sign, a light pole, a stop light, and a crash post.

McCormick suffered moderate injuries and his passenger, 20-year old Dylan Murray of Valle Mines sustained serious injuries.

Both were taken to Mercy Hospital South for treatment.
