Two serious Thursday traffic accidents

A Crystal City man was injured in a single-vehicle accident on northbound I-55 south of Meramec Bottom Road on Thursday afternoon. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, 59-year old Thomas Flowers was driving a 2005 Ford Escape and was overtaking a slower vehicle. The other vehicle braked, and Flowers avoided the vehicle by steering to the left and overcorrected to the right and lost control, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck the concrete median, and overturned. Flowers was taken by emergency personnel to Mercy Hospital South with serious injuries. The accident took place just after 12:30 Thursday afternoon.

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway A west of Veterans Boulevard near Festus on Thursday night. The Highway Patrol reports 63-year old Melody Rawe of Festus was driving a 2015 Chevy Equinox east on Highway A, while 68-year old Ricky Reed of Festus was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry west on A, when Reed crossed the centerline and struck Rawe’s vehicle head-on. Rawe was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with serious injuries, while Reed was taken to Mercy Hospital South with moderate injuries. A passenger in Rawe’s vehicle, 77-year old Darrell Daulton was taken by ambulance to Mercy St. Louis with moderate injuries. The accident took place at 8:40 Thursday night.
