Unlocked Vehicles Being Stolen in Jefferson County Remains a Big Problem

(Jefferson County) Jefferson County continues to see a rise in vehicles being stolen or items being taken from unlocked vehicles.

So far in the month of December, 23 vehicles have been stolen in the county and 18 of those have been with the keys left inside.

Sheriff Dave Marshak says dealing with these cases can create multiple issues for law enforcement once the vehicle is stolen.

We asked Marshak how criminals use the stolen vehicles.

Overall, the county has had 424 vehicles stolen so far this year. In 2019, the sheriff’s office reported 450 vehicle thefts.
