(HERCULANEUM) An intense defensive effort aided the Herculaneum Lady Blackcats in their 60-38 victory at home over the Festus Lady Tigers in basketball tonight on KJFF.

Herculaneum jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter with the help of senior point guard Taylor Metcalf.

It was Festus however that ended the quarter on a positive.

The end of the 1st quarter score was Herky 21 and Festus 6. In the 2nd quarter, Blackcat junior forward Paige Fowler began to dominate inside.

Herky led Festus at the half, 39-14. In the 2nd half, Fowler picked up where she left off.

Blackcats head coach Riley Blair was complimentary of the team’s defensive intensity and how it set the tone for the game.

The win for the Herculaneum Lady Blackcats puts their record at 4-3 heading into the holidays. They won’t play again until January 2nd, 2020 when they participate in the Lutheran South Invitational.

As for Festus, the Lady Tigers fall to 1-3 on the season and will next play on Thursday morning at 10 against the Central Rebels in the first round of the Park Hills Central Christmas Tournament.
