(Iron County) A few decisions have been made by the U.S. Forest Service regarding the Crane Lake Dam Safety and Rehabilitation Project in Iron County.

There were nine feasible engineering alternatives offered. Becky Ewing with Mark Twain National Forest at the Potosi/Fredericktown Ranger District tells us which plan was chosen.

Ewing says the public provided good input which helped the forest service make their decision.

Ewing asks residents to be patient with them as the project will take quite a bit of time before the project is complete.

The next part of the project is to put together an environmental plan.

Periodic updates about the Crane Lake project will be provided throughout the new year by the U.S. Forest Service.

To get to Crane Lake from Ironton, take Highway ‘E’ south for 9 miles, take a right on Iron County Road 124 for 2.5 miles then left on Iron County road 131 for two miles.
