The season came to an end for the Valle Catholic Warriors boys basketball team Wednesday night as they lost to the Oran Eagles 69-41 in the Class 2 state sectionals at Jackson High School. In the game heard on J-98, Valle held their own with Oran in the first quarter, tying it up at 13 at the end of the first.

The halftime score was 24-17, but Oran exploded for 23 points in the third quarter.

Shoemaker led the Eagles in scoring with 23 points. Kyle Gielow and Aaron Doza each had 8 points for Valle. Doza was our Applebee’s player of the game. Valle head coach Tyler Search says his boys worked hard but couldn’t keep up in the second half.

Valle ends their season at 16-13. Oran, now 28-1, moves on to the Class 2 quarterfinals on Saturday when they will play Thayer at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff. 

In the Class 2 girls state sectional game Wednesday night, Oran defeated Valle Catholic 75-25 on J-98. The Eagles raced out to a 28-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, leading by 42 at the half. Valle wasn’t ready to give up in the second half and did make some plays, including the Gilster Mary Lee Play of the Game.

Leah Cauble led scoring for the Eagles with 39 points, while Mallory Weiler paced Valle with 8 points to earn our Applebee’s Player of the Game. Despite the loss, Warriors head coach Davis Grigaitis was still pleased with how his team played and their future

Valle ends their season at 14-14. Oran, now 22-6, moves on to the Class 2 Quarter-finals on Saturday when they will play Thayer at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff.
