(CRYSTAL CITY) The Valle Catholic Warriors went on the road on Friday night and defeated the St. Pius Lancers 34-26 in a high intensity matchup.

Late in the opening quarter is when the game would have it’s first score as Valle Catholic’s Kellen Blum reached the endzone on a 4 yard run.

A PAT would make it 7-0, and Valle was far from done as the contest entered the second quarter. Carter Roth came in for the starting quarterback Chase Dunlap and found his way itno the endzone on a QB draw.

Valle knocked through another PAT to make it 14-0, and continued their ground dominance on an end around to Ryan Grein for another touchdown in the second.

With St. Pius seemingly already on the ropes nearing halftime, Valle finally went to the air with Dunlap as he threw for a touchdown to Tyler Blum, making the tally heading into the locker room 28-0 in favor of the Warriors.

In need of a wild rally, St. Pius started off on the right foot in the 3rd, as they took their opening drive for a touchdown thanks to a run by Dustin Burch.

Valle still lead 28-7 following the PAT, but later in the 3rd the Lancers made a deeper cut into the halftime lead of the Warriors. Following a Valle Catholic turnover, Burch ran in yet another touchdown to make it 28-14.

The third quarter rampage would not stop there for St. Pius, as they made it 20 unanswered with a Carson Fischer connection to Riley Naeger.

But as the third quarter transitioned into the fourth, Valle finally got their swagger back with a Carter Roth dash to the endzone.

Now down 34-20, St. Pius would make one last effort late in the 4th quarter as they scored another touchdown to cut the lead to eight.

But an onside kick from the Lancers proved to be unsuccessful. St. Pius ran out of time and Valle Catholic captured the victory 34-26.

Valle Catholic head coach Judd Naeger thought his team executed well in the first half.
