Valle Catholic Wins Windy Slugfest, 16-9, Over Potosi On KREI

(Ste. Genevieve) On a windy day in Ste. Genevieve, Valle Catholic won a slugfest over Potosi on Tuesday by a final score of 16-9. Potosi took advantage of a couple of fielding errors by Valle to lead 2-0 after the top of the first.

Valle countered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Makayla Joggerst tallied the first of four RBIs to even up the score.

The Warriors added one more in the second to lead 5-2. That score remained until the fifth inning. Potosi tied up the game on a Gracie Lawson RBI single.

Valle Catholic answered in the bottom of the fifth with five runs of their own to take a 10-5 lead. Pitcher Addi Donze broke the tie.

Potosi kept on fighting and managed to plate three runs in the top of the sixth. Lawson stepped up again with her second and third RBIs.

Valle again countered in the bottom of the inning by tacking on six more runs to take a 16-8 lead.

Emily Hochstatter brought around Ava Wright to score in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout.

Valle scored 16 runs on 15 hits and every starter scored a run. Joggerst finished 4-for-4 with a walk and four RBIs, Abree Zipprich had three RBIs, while Macy Wolk, Aubrey Wolk and Donze each had two RBIs. Coach Kurt Basler knew this game could be a slugfest.

Valle Catholic improves to 14-3 and are the top seed in Class One District Two. That tournament begins Friday in Advance.

For Potosi, Lawson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Lily Bryan went 2-for-4. The Trojans are 8-15 and also have the top seed in their district tournament, Class Two District Three. Potosi will host the tournament beginning Friday.
