Valle Catholic’s Siebert Comments on Being Named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Ste. Genevieve) The Valle Catholic Warriors volleyball team is heading back to the State Final Four with a bevy of talented players, but senior outside hitter Riley Siebert stood out among the rest this past week and was named the Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

Siebert says the recognition means a lot.

Across four playoff matches – districts, sectionals, and quarterfinals – Siebert compiled 45 kills in 87 attempts with only eight errors, 12 aces in 61 service attempts, 14 block assists, 18 digs, and led the Warriors to three three-set sweeps and a hard-fought, five-set victory against Woodland.

While Siebert has experienced plenty of highs throughout her tenure as a four-year member of the varsity team with Valle, she missed a majority of the 2019 season due to a high ankle sprain she suffered in a preseason jamboree.

She says missing time last year motivated her for her senior season.

As a four-year varsity letterman and one of just two seniors on the Valle volleyball team this year, Siebert was called upon to be a leader for the Warriors from the jump this season.

According to head coach Nancy Fischer, Riley answered that call and then some.

Siebert says once she recognized it was her turn to step up and lead, she embraced the opportunity and never looked back.

As Athlete of the Week, Siebert received a T-shirt, a certificate, and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.

The Valle Catholic volleyball team will play in the State Semifinals on Friday when they take on the Miller Cardinals.

Win or lose, we will have coverage of Valle in either the state championship or the third-place game on Saturday on J98.
