(PERRYVILLE, Mo.) – For the 6th straight season, the Valle Catholic Warriors and the St. Vincent Indians will open up the football season playing against each other, and they’ll do so Friday night in Perryville on J-98 the Boot.

On the side of Valle, it was a great season at 9-3 in 2018 that ended in the district finals with a loss to eventual state champion Hayti.

Head coach Judd Naeger says they’ve hit the weight room since then.

For St. Vincent, they too fell to Hayti in the district tournament a year ago, but enter into 2019 with plenty of optimism after erasing an 0-3 start to the year to finish 5-6.

That tough start was highlighted by an opening 47-9 loss at Valle, but the stretch that followed saw the Indians win 5 of 7 games.

They narrowly lost by just a point at 9-2 Jefferson R-7 in the final regular season game of the year, and also won a playoff game against Brentwood.

Head coach Tim Schumer says they’ll aim for a better start in 2019.

Both of these teams feature senior quarterbacks, and for Valle its returning starting Chase Dunlap.

Coach Naeger says seniors like Dunlap are on a mission this year.

Starting at quarterback for the third straight year on the St. Vincent end is senior Garrett Dobbelare.

He heads up a senior class that has seen many of its members start together since they were sophomores.

Coach Schumer thinks they’re ready for the challenge of Valle Catholic and beyond.

You can tune into the season opener between the Valle Catholic Warriors and the St. Vincent Indians Friday night on J-98 with the Fliegs Equipment Pregame Show beginning at 6:45.
