In the semifinals of the Valley of Caledonia Tournament Thursday night, the West County Bulldogs and South Iron Panthers advanced to the girls championship, while the Bunker Eagles and Bourbon Warhawks earned spots in the boys championship.

West County defeated the Jefferson Blue Jays 55-50 in the first game of the night. West County took the lead early and never looked back.

Dori McRaven was our Applebee’s player-of-the-game and tied with MaKenzie Simily to lead the scoring for the Bulldogs with 12 points each.
The Bluejays trailed the entire game but never gave up, as they cut the lead to 49-47 late in the 4th quarter.

Heidi Hurst led the scoring for the Bluejays with 11 points. West County head coach Joe Arnold says even with the win, there’s a lot of work to be done.

In the second girls game, South Iron defeated the Lesterville Bearcats 73-38. Michaela Ayers led the Panthers with 20 points.

South Iron coach Lawrence Graves says his team has a lot of experience.

In the boys semi-finals, the Bunker Eagles topped Kingston 52-47.
The Eagles got on the board first, but the Cougars kept up and took a 13-11 lead in the second quarter. Bunker led 24-18 at the half with Mason Davis scoring 11 in the first half. He continued putting up points in the second.

Kingston made their move in the third to come within one point of Bunker.

Bunker kept the lead through the fourth quarter to win 52-47. Eagles head coach Jarod Kelly says it wasn’t pretty.

Mason Davis led Bunker with 15 points and was named the Applebee’s player-of-the-game. Troy Gildehaus led in scoring for Kingston with 14 points.
The final game of the evening saw the Bourbon Warhawks defeat the host Valley Vikings 64-55. Valley led for the whole first quarter, but Bourbon came storming back in the second.

Aaron Farris led the way in scoring with 28 points. Bourbon head coach Devon Payne says his guys eventually settled into the game after a slow start.

The Valley of Caledonia tournament will conclude Saturday with the third place and championship games. Here is the schedule:
GIRLS THIRD PLACE: Lesterville vs. Jefferson – 11 a.m.
BOYS THIRD PLACE: Valley vs. Kingston – 1 p.m.
GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP: West County vs. South Iron – 3 p.m.
BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP: Bunker vs. Bourbon – 5 p.m.
